Shake, Shake, Shake!

Last week, we brought in some empty plastic bottles and decorated them with collage materials. Today we added rice to the bottles to create shakers! We enjoyed using the shakers during continuous provision to sing songs with, as well as explore the words loud, quiet, fast and slow. This activity linked very well to our Phase 1 phonics learning.

Letters to Father Christmas

Today we made letters to send to Father Christmas.

We began by having a speaking and listening activity. In turn, we told our friends what we would like for Christmas:

#na “I want a big bike”

#ls “Dolly”

#mma “I want Paw Patrol toys for my house”

#bh “Princess”

After we had shared some of the things that we hope to get, we then had a look through some toy magazines to choose some items to add to our letters. We used scissors to cut out the pictures and we were modelled how to hold and use the scissors correctly. Once we had stuck down the pictures, some of us had a go at mark-making and writing initial sounds. We then folded up our letters and sealed them inside an envelope before posting it in our letter box to send to  Father Christmas!

We hope Father Christmas receives our letters, and we can’t wait for Christmas morning to see if he brings us everything that we want!

Talk Boost

For the past 10 weeks, these children have been taking part in the Talk Boost intervention to develop their speaking, listening and attention. Today they celebrated the completion of this intervention by showing the class all of their learning from the past 10 weeks in their scrap book, as well as showing us a photo slideshow on our screen. The children also got awarded with certificates for all of their hard work…a very big well done!

It’s snowing!

Whilst we were getting busy this morning, we noticed out of the window that it had begun to snow! We quickly got our coats on and went outside to explore.

#ooj It’s so cold and white!

#gk I can lick it in my mouth.

#oe It means it’s nearly christmas when it snows!

Filling and Emptying

This little girl was very engaged in the Water Area, filling and emptying different sized containers. She persisted as she used the bottle to fill up the small plastic kettle, and then used this to fill up the large cylinder. She became very excited when the water reached the top of the cyclinder! She then poured the water into the water tray and repeated this process again!

Next steps:

Her next steps were met instantly, as whilst she filled the containers I modelled the language of full and empty in the appropriate context. She began to repeat the words, and this is something that we will be continually build upon develop her vocabulary.
