Dinosaur Printing

Today the children really enjoyed making marks using the feet of the dinosaurs!

#oe My dinosaur is walking blue footprints all over the paper.

#aj Mine is walking everywhere and going blob, blob blob!

Some children explored what happened when they printed two colours together:

#st It’s going brown.

#tw It’s got loads of colourful feet on it.

Exploring our New Den

The children were so surprised when they walked into Nursery today to see that our room has been changed around!

Recently in Nursery, a lot of children have been creating their own dens and cosy areas using the crates or the pillows in the Reading Area. Through observations, the Nursery teachers therefore thought it would be a good idea to support the interests of the children and build them a den.

During busy time, the children had a fantastic time exploring the new area. They transported different objects from around the classroom into the new den. Throughout the day, some children then took some reading books to the new area and sat quietly reading and exploring their stories.

We look forward to continuing to observe the children using the new den area as a role play and quiet space, as well seeing what lovely learning opportunities it creates for them.

Father Christmas is coming!

This morning, this group of children were very engaged in some Christmas role-play together.

#ac We need to go to sleep for Santa!

#lj Lets go and lie down!

The children all gathered in the Reading Area and fell asleep for Father Christmas to come.

#dm He not coming until we sleep.

#ws It’s too noisy we need to be fast asleep or he won’t come.

A couple of minutes later, #oj came over to the children playing the part of Father Christmas. He delivered the children all a piece of play dough each!

Big Draws

Today the children completed their Big Draws linked to what presents they got for Christmas. The children were encouraged to talk about their presents and what they looked like, before drawing a picture of them. Some children then attempted to label their pictures.

Making Bread

Today in Nursery we followed a recipe to make bread, just like the Little Red Hen!

In the story of the Little Red Hen, her friends did not help her make the bread, however in Nursery we all worked together to measure out the ingredients and mix them altogether.

Once the ingredients were all mixed together, we kneaded it and split the mixture up into six equal balls and patted them down. We then put them into the oven.

Whilst the bread was baking, some children created their own recipes and instructions by recalling the ingredients and method that we used.

Unlike in the story of the Little Red Hen, we then shared the bread with our friends and  tucked into it for our snack!

#mm “mmmmmmm”

#aj “I like it”

#st “It’s nice”

#ms “It tastes like in my house”

#ks “It is like bread”

What is in the parcel?

Today an exciting parcel was delivered to Nursery!

Firstly, we passed it around, and feeling and squeezing it we acted like Explorasaurus whilst we suggested what could be inside:

After some predictions, we unwrapped the parcel.

At first, some children thought that there were sticks inside of it. However, through linking it back to the story we are currently learning about, we remembered that it is called wheat.

I posed the question, “Where did the wheat come from?”

#aj “It’s from the Little Red Hen!”

#ws “It grows from the seed”

#as “It’s like the seed isn’t it?”

#ac “It’s a present for us again”

We then explored the wheat using our senses:

Potions

This morning the children enjoyed following instructions to create a potion. The children applied their knowledge of counting to ensure that the correct amount of each of the ingredients were added to the potion. They then observed in amazement what happened to the potion once all the ingredients were added.

Gloop!

Some children had a great time exploring the gloop that was out in the provision today!

This activity promoted lots of language and discussion between the children, and it enabled the children to see the gloop change states from a solid on the tray to a liquid when it was picked up.

Autumn Prints

Over the long weekend, it was suggested that you could go on an Autumn hunt to look at and collect the different materials that we can find on the floor during this season.

Thank you for all of your fabulous findings, Morning and Afternoon Nursery had a great time printing with leaves, berries and pine cones!

We will be continuing our learning about Autumn over the coming weeks, so keep your eyes peeled for anything else autumnal that you find whilst you are out and about!
