Dinosaur Printing

Today the children really enjoyed making marks using the feet of the dinosaurs!

#oe My dinosaur is walking blue footprints all over the paper.

#aj Mine is walking everywhere and going blob, blob blob!

Some children explored what happened when they printed two colours together:

#st It’s going brown.

#tw It’s got loads of colourful feet on it.

Exploring our New Den

The children were so surprised when they walked into Nursery today to see that our room has been changed around!

Recently in Nursery, a lot of children have been creating their own dens and cosy areas using the crates or the pillows in the Reading Area. Through observations, the Nursery teachers therefore thought it would be a good idea to support the interests of the children and build them a den.

During busy time, the children had a fantastic time exploring the new area. They transported different objects from around the classroom into the new den. Throughout the day, some children then took some reading books to the new area and sat quietly reading and exploring their stories.

We look forward to continuing to observe the children using the new den area as a role play and quiet space, as well seeing what lovely learning opportunities it creates for them.

Talk for Writing

In Spring Term, we are now starting a new approach to our English lessons using Talk for Writing. Talk for Writing is a fun and creative approach to develop writers and it enables the children to imitate the key language they need for a story orally, before they try reading and then writing it.

The story we are learning in Nursery is about dinosaurs. Each day the children will learn a new little part of the story map orally and with actions. Today we had a go at practising the first line of the story and, as you can see, the children picked it up very well!

This is the story map that we will be using to retell the dinosaur story. Each of the images will have an action to it, as you can see from the video above.

This is the narrative of the story which links to the images above.

Please encourage your child to retell the story to you each day at home to see if they are able to remember the words and actions. If you would like a printed copy of the story map please let me know and I can arrange this for you.

It’s snowing!

Whilst we were getting busy this morning, we noticed out of the window that it had begun to snow! We quickly got our coats on and went outside to explore.

#ooj It’s so cold and white!

#gk I can lick it in my mouth.

#oe It means it’s nearly christmas when it snows!

Music and Movement

Every week, Mrs Ridell comes in Nursery and carries out Music and Movement sessions. We really look forward to these sessions, and learn lots of new songs, as well as using different musical instruments and moving our bodies in different ways.

Here are some videos of us in action!

Nursery Rhyme Week – Day 3

The rhyme we have been exploring today was called Old King Cole. This was a rhyme that we were not very familiar with, however, after a few practises we soon remembered the words and the tune!

We loved performing the rhymes we have been learning so far at the Stay and Play with our parents and carers. We then enjoyed creating our own crowns out of collage materials so we could be just like Old King Cole!

Here are Morning Nursery:

“What does Old King Cole wear on his head?”

#en “a hat”

“It looks a bit like a hat, but we call it something else starting with a ‘c’ sound…”

#gk “he wears a crown!”

Here are afternoon Nursery:

In reference to Old King Cole, #tw said “I think he lives in the castle”

What have you made? #ra “a king crown”

#na “I want to wear the king hat too”

Healthy and Unhealthy Food

Today we have been exploring healthy and unhealthy food and we were set a challenge to help Little Red Riding Hood to make a healthy basket of food for Grandma.

We looked through food magazines and talked about what food would be good for Grandma and carefully cut around the pictures and added them to our baskets.

#ls “orange good”

#rr “cake has lots of sugar for your teeth”

On our Creative Table we made prints using different fruit and vegetables. We talked about the shapes that we made and the colours that we used.
