Shake, Shake, Shake!

Last week, we brought in some empty plastic bottles and decorated them with collage materials. Today we added rice to the bottles to create shakers! We enjoyed using the shakers during continuous provision to sing songs with, as well as explore the words loud, quiet, fast and slow. This activity linked very well to our Phase 1 phonics learning.

Talk Boost

For the past 10 weeks, these children have been taking part in the Talk Boost intervention to develop their speaking, listening and attention. Today they celebrated the completion of this intervention by showing the class all of their learning from the past 10 weeks in their scrap book, as well as showing us a photo slideshow on our screen. The children also got awarded with certificates for all of their hard work…a very big well done!

Active Learning

Moo Music

We have had a great time today joining in with a session with Laura from Moo Music!

We joined in singing lots of different songs, played lots of different instruments and took part in dances to lots of different songs – it was great fun!

Making Bread

Today in Nursery we followed a recipe to make bread, just like the Little Red Hen!

In the story of the Little Red Hen, her friends did not help her make the bread, however in Nursery we all worked together to measure out the ingredients and mix them altogether.

Once the ingredients were all mixed together, we kneaded it and split the mixture up into six equal balls and patted them down. We then put them into the oven.

Whilst the bread was baking, some children created their own recipes and instructions by recalling the ingredients and method that we used.

Unlike in the story of the Little Red Hen, we then shared the bread with our friends and  tucked into it for our snack!

What is in the parcel?

Today an exciting parcel was delivered to Nursery!

Firstly, we passed it around, and feeling and squeezing it we acted like Explorasaurus whilst we suggested what could be inside:

After some predictions, we unwrapped the parcel.

At first, some children thought that there were sticks inside of it. However, through linking it back to the story we are currently learning about, we remembered that it is called wheat.

I posed the question, “Where did the wheat come from?”

#as “It’s like the seed isn’t it?”

We then explored the wheat using our senses:

Music and Movement

Every week, Mrs Ridell comes in Nursery and carries out Music and Movement sessions. We really look forward to these sessions, and learn lots of new songs, as well as using different musical instruments and moving our bodies in different ways.

Who delivered the bread? 

Today in Nursery we were very excited to find that a basket of fresh bread had been delivered. We passed the bread around in circle time, and talked about where it may have come from and who could have brought it.

#ooj “It is bread, Red Riding Hood bought the bread from Asda”

#lj “She lives in a cottage and had to get the bus to bring the bread to Nursery”

#rr “She lives in a village”

#gk “You bake the bread in the oven”

#dg “Mummy has bread like this in my house”

Inside of the basket was a letter addressed to Nursery, it was from somebody called the Little Red Hen, who told us that she had baked the bread for us.

But who was the Little Red Hen? We read a about her to find out.

After the story, we talked about how kind it was of the Little Red Hen to bake some bread for us, because after all, the animals in the story were not very helpful to her, so it was lovely of her to think to share it with us instead!

We thought it would be a good idea to write a letter back to the Little Red Hen to say thank you. We each had a go at mark-making a letter back to the Little Red Hen, some of us copying from a scribed piece of writing to begin practising our letter formation.

After writing a letter to the Little Red Hen it was time for snack. We used this time to tuck into the delicious fresh bread.

Nursery Rhyme Week – Day 3

The rhyme we have been exploring today was called Old King Cole. This was a rhyme that we were not very familiar with, however, after a few practises we soon remembered the words and the tune!

We loved performing the rhymes we have been learning so far at the Stay and Play with our parents and carers. We then enjoyed creating our own crowns out of collage materials so we could be just like Old King Cole!

Talk Boost

These children are taking part in the Talk Boost intervention with Mrs Webb. This intervention focuses on communication and language and aims to build up the children’s listening and attention, understanding and speaking.

In these photographs, the children were learning about the following objectives; with our eyes we can look at it and say what we see, with our ears we can hear, with our hands we can touch/feel, with our tongues we can taste/eat, with our noses we can smell.

In Nursery we work together

Both Nursery classes have been working very hard in making relationships with different members of their class. We have been talking a lot about how to be a good friend, and we know that sharing and taking it in turns are some ways of how we can be one of these.
